The various uses of intimate lubricants

Why use intimate lubricants in your sexual relations?

There are many benefits to using lubricants during sexual activity. Very often they are not used because people are unaware of the different benefits they can offer.

That is why it is necessary to know the different uses of lubricants in order to be able to use them whenever you want.

The most common reasons for using lubricants include:

  • Vaginal dryness. Hormonal changes during the menstrual cycle, pregnancy, menopause, taking medication or periods of great stress can reduce a woman’s natural lubrication capacity.
In each of these cases, the use of an intimate lubricant alleviates vaginal dryness and avoids the discomfort that can occur during sexual intercourse.
  • Resumption of sexual activity after childbirth. After the forty-day waiting period following birth, if there are no medical contraindications, sexual activity can resume normally.
However, a lack of lubrication due to hormonal changes after childbirth and during breastfeeding, low libido, fatigue in the early days of motherhood and the fear that sex after pregnancy will hurt are factors that play against normal lubrication and the resumption of sexual activity after childbirth.
Lubricants therefore become the best allies for those first encounters after the arrival of a baby.
  • Protect intimate parts. By reducing friction, lubricating gels prevent friction injuries to both the vagina – which can lead to gynaecological problems – and the penis.
  • Improve sexual relations. In addition to ensuring female intimate wellness, lubricating gels can also be used to enhance sexual pleasure.
By providing greater comfort, they encourage people to try new practices or extend the duration of intimate relations.

Of course, when choosing the best lubricant, it is essential to check that it is dermatologically and gynaecologically tested and does not contain colourings, parabens or allergens.

In addition, for the most comfortable and effective use, it is important that the consistency of the product is similar to that of physiological vaginal secretions, that it is water-based and that it does not leave stains or residues.

It is also important to make sure it will not affect condom integrity and preferably it should not contain spermicides.
